With every building, there is a foundation. A starting place to build, and here at Gateway Baptist Church our foundation is Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:11 “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
We were established in 1984. Our founding pastor was Pastor John L. Camp. Pastor Camp wanted a gateway to heaven where Christ was preached to the people of Villa Rica and surrounding communities. After finding a small house on Highpoint Road, his vision began to materialize. Multiple hands working together, brick by brick, building what Pastor Camp envisioned: Gateway Baptist Church. The first service held was on Wednesday, February 29th, 1984. After four years of serving as the church planter and pastor of the newly founded Gateway Baptist Church, Pastor Camp stepped down and retired due to his health.
In 1988 Pastor Larry Argo followed Pastor Camp. He further stabilized the church with the fundamentals of the Baptist Doctrine. Pastor Argo would continue to pastor Gateway for ten years establishing the saints that attended in those days.
Following Pastor Argo, in 1998, Gateway welcomed Pastor Jeff Byrd. Under Pastor Byrd’s leadership, the church saw tremendous growth. Many building additions were completed and in 2010 a new beautiful church building was finished. It’s the building Gateway currently gathers in and is capable of seating nearly 300. Pastor Byrd lovingly cared for and pastored our flock for 19 years.
Pastor Josh Agan now serves as the Pastor of Gateway Baptist Church since April 2017. Pastor Josh has continued to serve Gateway Baptist Church with sincere dedication to the Lord's precious word and is driven to continue to fulfill the dream of Gateway Baptist Church: Striving to show the world the Gateway to heaven is through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
